On September 16, Camilla, the queen consort, and her husband, King Charles III, arrived to Cardiff Castle to meet the citizens of Cardiff, Wales. King Charles III is in Wales for the first time since taking the throne after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away.

The prominent figure wore all-black attire in accordance with mourning custom, and her boxy jacket was fastened with geometric buttons made of gold, silver, and diamonds. Her midi-length, similarly boxy skirt was worn with translucent black tights for further covering.

The mourning custom that stretches back to the 19th century in the UK includes wearing pearls. Following the passing of Prince Albert in 1861, Queen Victoria wore nothing but black for the remainder of her life. She did, however, on occasion wear jewellery, nearly invariably a pearl necklace.
